Congratulations! You've just won a new hot tub! Everyone wants a hot tub right?
Well, there was that hot-tub that became a time machine. Sorry, but there is an equally not funny hot tub waiting for you. You've won a hot tub that is filled with a vat of high fructose corn syrup. This is a graphic that ran in the NYT. But still... the gross-out factor... wow.
This lovely illustration ran with an article in yesterday's New York Times Dining & Wine. A massive story focused on one of our favorite things in the world: sugar. It raises questions about sugar's effect on the body. Forget the calories, this article investigates the claim that sugar is a straight-up toxin to the body.
The article references a lecture by Robert Lustig, the leading expert on childhood obesity at the University of California, San Fransico. The lecture on sugar -- posted on YouTube in 2009 -- went viral and has been viewed 883,000 times. It's here if you want to see it.
The graphic explains that the average person will consume 313 gallons of high-fructose corn syrup in their lifetime. Wow, after picturing bathing in that I need to take a shower.
